01: What kind of game is 'Vintage Story'?
A01: Vintage Story is a 3D game similar to the famous block building & survival hit 'Minecraft'. You'll explore an huge open and procedural generated world
in which you'll have to survive, build shelter, cook, craft, hunt animals or for treasure, fight mobs and more. You can do all this alone or you could work
together with other players. Vintage Story is still in development but plays awesome already.

02: What is 'Vintage Story Online: Conquest of Blocks' all about?
A02: Our server 'Conquest of Blocks', also known as just 'CoB', is the oldest active custom server for 'Vintage Story'. We are running a bunch of great mods - both 3rd party and mods made specifically for the server, to enhance the game experience and immersion. Our focus lies on teamplay, survival and town building. We are running a Discord community with an in-game voting system and both the moderators and server members will be happy to help anyone with their first steps in the game.
03: How do i connect to the 'Vintage Story Online: Conquest of Blocks' multiplayer server?
A03: Start 'Vintage Story' and browse the public server list in the multiplayer section. Look for 'Conquest of Blocks' in that list and join us.
All mods will be downloaded automatically. Just make sure you do not have outdated versions of these files in your mod folders and that you are running
the same game version as the server. This could otherwise lead to errors and connection problems.
04: Am i allowed to use your mods on my own server?
A04: CoB may release selected content as standalone mods, which are allowed to be used on other public servers, here: https://mods.vintagestory.at/list/mod?userid=60
05: How do i get whitelisted / get building rights?
A05: The server is currently public. You are invited to join any time. No need to get whitelisted.
06: What exactly am i allowed to build on your server and what should i not?
A06: Please study our rules for further information about building restrictions.
07: How often do you wipe?
A07: We are wiping every 4/6 months. We may also wipe on major game updates, if features have been added that require a new world gen.
Wipe dates are listed in our Discord.
08: Will i loose all my buildings and artwork, if the server is getting a wipe?
A08: You may request the content of your claim to be saved as a schematic anytime, but we will ask for a fee of 1€ per claim or up to 3 single objects, payable in advance via PayPal, due to the time and work involved. You will then be able to download your buildings to your hard drive and use them in singleplayer or on another server. If you decide to pay the fee, make sure to include your in-game name, Discord name and the coordinates of your claim that you want to be saved.
If you fail to do so, we won't be able to fulfill your request.
If you want us to upload your buildings to our server again after any wipe, the fee will be 2€ instead of 1€. That's per claim or up to 3 single objects as well.
In that case you'll need to remove all valuables from your builds, as only building and deco blocks are allowed to be uploaded to a new world again.
You do not have to pay a fee, if you are either a Patreon supporter or have the Artist role.
09: How can i set my personal spawn point?
A09: You may create a new spawn point by using a 'temporal gear' from within your inventory (hold 'MouseButtonRight' while selected).
You may acquire 'temporal gears' by killing some enemy types or by finding them in ruins & dungeons. Once in a while, our server exclusive general stores
got some in stock too. Be advised that spawn points set with a temporal gear will last 4 deaths only. You need to use another gear then, to set a new spawn point. Alternatively you may use the /sethome command to create a permanent spawn point that will not expire. This will cost in-game currency though.
10: How do i stay alive in the first couple of game hours?
A10: You may want to claim your /starterkit first. Look out for bushes carrying berries and harvest them with your knife. Eat them, if hungry. Look for loose flint on the ground. Also look for reeds at waterfronts, harvest them and produce a hand basket (10 reeds) and reed basket (24 reeds), so that you can carry and store more items. You can place your torch on the ground, once you found a good spot to begin building. Use a 'temporal gear' from your inventory (hold 'MouseButtonRight' while selected) to set your spawn point / home. Study the handbook (H) to produce tools like axes and hoes made of flint. If you spawn in winter, you may have to hunt for food right away to survive. Seek shelter in buildings or underground, to keep yourself warm. Also check your surroundings for mushrooms of all sorts... There's also a pictured tutorial on this very website here.
11: Are there any chat commands that i can use on the 'Conquest of Blocks' server?
A11: You may switch to windowed mode with 'F11' if the game is running and browse our detailed chat commands & keys list.
12: Once in a while the server is not responding for minutes!
A12: The server will restart twice every day. Every third day the server will create an automatic backup. CoB may be down for up to 30 minutes then. If you are in a
different time zone than EU, you may experience this more often than others. If this happens, please check back later. Thank you for your patience.
13: How can i activate the 'Discord' overlay in-game?
A13: Open your 'Discord' VoIP, open 'settings' (lower left corner) - then click 'game activity' - 'add game' and choose 'Vintage Story'. To enable/disable the overlay,
go to 'overlay' and change settings. To define a new hotkey, go to 'keybinds'. Choose a key that you won't use to write text messages.
14: Do you have events?
A14: We unregularly create events like hunting, jump and run parcours, chisel tournaments and other fun stuff for players to battle each others skills
and win in-game prizes. We also set up quests and dungeons to hunt for rare items.
15: Can i skip nighttime on the server?
A15: We used to have a voting bot for this, but since we are now using a mod to shorten nights, that option has been removed.
16: What does the mod collection add?
A16: The mod collection will add lots of neat custom and QoL content to the game, some of it server-exclusive, e.g. new creatures, ruins,
plants, tools, functions, weapons, sound fx, a skill system and new traders.
17: Is there a list with all the mods you are using on your 'Vintage Story' server?
A17: No, but you may just browse the servers mod folder with the id 91.121.43.194 in '%appdata%\VintagestoryData\ModsByServer'.
18: I still can't join the server after installing the mod collection!
A18: In case you still be prompted to install required mods to join, please go to %appdata%/VintageStoryData/ModsByServer/91.121.43.194-27030 and check
if you got mods in 2 different versions installed (e.g. an older version besides an newer version). If so, either delete the old version or just
delete everything inside that folder. You should also delete the whole 'Cache' folder. Try to connect again.
Note: In case you can't find the 'AppData' folder, please follow these instructions: View hidden files in windows.
Also make sure your game client got the same version number as our server (main menu, lower right corner).
19: I granted someone access to my claim, but he/she still can't modify anything.
A19: Try to delete your claim and redo it, after someone joined your group/clan. This is something that needs to be fixed by the developers.
20: Help! Soil is moving underneath my builds, leaving deep holes!
A20: Set up underground support first, before starting to build whatever structure. Soil can be affected by gravity and landslides may occur,
if you do not prepare properly. This applies only, if block gravity is enabled on the server.
21: Help! I set something on fire by accident! How can i extinguish it?
A21: Always make sure you have a filled watering can or a bucket somewhere nearby, in case an unwanted fire occurs. This applies especially,
if you're living inside a wooden structure. If you start a fire, make sure to have it surrounded by blocks only that cannot catch fire, e.g. stone blocks.
22: I think someone is cheating or violating server rules. How can i report it?
A22: Please use Discord (https://discord.gg/jbVQTd3h77) and contact the administrator via personal message.
23: What about 'Temporal Stability'?
A23: Temporal stability is on by default, but the community may request it to be disabled via Discord vote.
Rifts are disabled completely.
24: My 'Vintage Story' game is running like crap. What can i do?
A24: If you experience low framerates, this is something we can't fix, since it's your hardware, not the server performance.
But you may try to change the following settings in-game and see, if it does anything for you:
VSync Mode: Off
Max FPS: around 35 (raise this number a bit, if it feels too slow for you)
Occlusion Culling: On
Shadows: Medium or low quality
SSAO: Off
You should also try to fiddle with the other graphic options a bit, like with the 'resolution' slider or the 'waving foliage' option.
If your game is lagging, try to check your internet connection first. If you think, the server is lagging for everyone and not just for you,
please contact the administrator so that he can try to fix this.
25: Using a shortcut to direct-connect to the 'Conquest of Blocks' server.
A25: Find the shortcut to the game (usually on your desktop), right-click on it and choose 'Properties' - 'Shortcut'
and replace the 'Target' parameter with the following:
%appdata%\Vintagestory\Vintagestory.exe -c 91.121.43.194:27030
Save it and the next time you're using that shortcut, you should connect to 'CoB' right away.
26: Can we have our own Discord voice or text chat for our village?
A26: This feature is currently not available.
27: How can i /sethome?
A27: You need to have 25 crowns in your inventory to be able to set a permanent spawnpoint with /sethome.
28: Is there a way to raise the claim limit?
A28: The "Artist" role will grant you unlimited claims but will only be given to those with extraordinary talent in building, designing and chiseling.
This role cannot be applied for, it may just happen.
29: Can i contribute to the server?
A29: CoB is always looking for talented modders, moddelers and coders to help with creating server exclusive content and bug fixing. If you are talented
in building, another way to contribute would be to create schematics of ruins, dungeons or buildings which could be added to world generation.
These can be uploaded to our Discord #schematics channel.
30: How many people are running and maintaining the 'CoB' server, the Discord and the Website?
A30: Currently it's one person only.
31: I have lost items because of a bug. Can i get them back?
A31: If you got some kind of proof that you lost items because of a bug, you may get them back from an admin on request. We won't be able to give items back that have been lost through lag though, because the game has a tendency to lag regularly, since it is early access and not optimized. Sometimes i may also just be a bad connection.
32: What's the ProPick node search radius on this server?
A32: It's eight (8).
33: What happens if i die on the server?
A33: You'll loose 15% of your experience points, if you die. There is a cooldown of 15 minutes, until you can loose xp again. There will be a marker on your map, where you should find your corpse with the lost items. But careful! After 4 deaths in a row without looting your corpse, your items in there will be gone! Also keep in mind, that your corpse will become unprotected after 2 in-game days, which means everybody will be able to loot it after that time.
